Need help surrendering a companion?

At JustCare Animal Rescue & Sanctuary we understand that times are difficult and we are here to assist. Here is what to expect:

  • Before you surrender your companion please consider the following:

    • Reach out to the shelter, rescue or breeder where you adopted your pet. Prior to giving up or finding a new home for your pet, most adoption agreements mandate you contact them.

    • Check with your veterinarian to exclude any potential health problems your pet might have. Undetected medical issues can often cause sudden behavior changes.

    • For common behavioral problems, consider getting help from a trainer or behaviorist.

    • Reach out to your loved ones to see if they're interested in taking on your pet's ownership.

JustCare Animal rescue & Sanctuary accepts surrendered pets when all other options have been explored. The shelter is open to all animals belonging to Oakville residents. Appointments are necessary, and surrendering is free, but we appreciate donations to help with animal care costs. To ensure the safety of your pet and other shelter animals, please keep dogs leashed and cats and critters in secure carriers at all times. Please email justcarecats@gmail.com to make an appointment or for more information.

  • What to bring with you:

    • Current photo ID (required)

    • Proof of residency in Oakville (required)

    • Completed surrender form (required)

    • Your pet's veterinary records and/or the name of the vet where they were last seen

    • Any behavioral or training records

Share with us any information you have about your pet. Our volunteers are the best source of information on our policies and procedures for assessing pets and putting them up for adoption.
